Winter wardrobe basic

dress - clements ribeiro, wool, stripedDuring the cold of winter, I’m usually a jeans and jumper kind of girl.

But I’ve discovered that a dress/skirt with warm tights can be just as cosy.

Yes, the winter dress has become a basic in my winter capsule.

I used to think people who wore dresses in the winter were a bit mad but there’s a lot to be said for it.

dress - laura ashley, greyI think it’s borne from my having a capsule wardrobe and needing to make each piece count. I have a couple of winter dresses and they can be:

  • Worn on their own
  • Worn with a jacket over them so they look like a skirt
  • Dressed up with heels
  • Dressed down with boots
  • Super casual with flats

Ooh, did I mention the grey one has pockets? I do love pockets in a dress, and they are all too uncommon for my liking.

I’ve opened my mind a bit about winter dressing and am all the happier for it!

My jeans still get a lot of love in the winter but it’s good to have an option.

Have a great week 😊

I love dresses! I’m usually a jeans and sweater girl, but I wear a dress with tights and boots about once a week in the winter. It’s nice to feel a bit more dressed up, while still being warm and comfortable.

Hi there, thanks so much for stopping by 🙂 You’ve absolutely nailed it – it’s the combination of still being comfortable but looking a bit dressed up – that’s a lot harder to do with jeans! Lxx

Ooh, I looooove the dress/skirt and tights combination in winter, too, Lorraine! Those two winter dresses look elegant and chic. Since winters here in Brisbane are very mild, my favourite winter combination is simply wearing my regular dresses with a light cardigan, plus tights and boots. I’m slightly envious of your colder winters, though, as your winter dresses look very snug indeed. ☺️ xx

Yes, it can often look like you’ve tried harder than you actually have! Lxx

Big dress fan here too. Jumper dresses, denim dresses, smart dresses. Easy to wear and made to look different. Pockets in dresses have only just reached me in my ‘denim dress for every occasion’! x

Hiya Nik, yes it’s the handiness of them I really like. One item and you’re done! Lxx

Oh so do I – in fact, it can even be a deal breaker if a potential new item doesn’t have pockets!! Lxx

I’m quite long in the body and curvy so find them hard enough to be long enough. But I do adore them when I find the right one ♥️very chic! X

You’re lucky to be tall and curvy but I know what a pain it can be trying to find the right fit! I find the great thing about jumper dresses, especially in a dark colour, is that with black, opaque tights, it can sometimes be hard to see where the dress ends and the tights begin, so they don’t look too short, Lxx
