One year blogging

2018-02-04 BalloonsToday marks my one-year anniversary of blogging.

I started this blog to chart my journey to simplicity and the lessons learned on the way. I have read a lot about minimalism over the past couple of years and I don’t think I ever say anything too original or ground-breaking. But it is a true account of my experience – a very ordinary person, making small changes, to try and live more meaningfully.

I write every week about the tiny steps I take, how something has affected me, or given me pause for thought.

But today, on this blogging anniversary, I don’t want to write about me!

I want to write about you!

Thank you 😊

Thanks to each and every one of you who pause throughout your day to read my little blog, who take the time to press the ‘like’ button and most of all, to those who comment. Connection is one of the things I love best about blogging and I still get a thrill when I see a comment come through.

A special thank you to those who subscribe by e-mail – I know it’s not as easy and that you have to make more of an effort.

I notice and appreciate every single subscriber I have and always try and visit your site too – that’s one of the best things about getting a new subscriber – it alerts me to a blog I may not have heard of before and it’s wonderful to find another perspective. I am inspired by your blogs and thoughts and outlook on life.

Best of all are the ‘frequent flyers’! The familiar photos and icons that pop up – it’s like connecting with old friends. It never worries me that I haven’t met you in person – we either share a common perspective or you give me food for thought about a different aspect of life.

I’m not very active on social media, besides an odd tweet here or there. Others have said to me, that I must be on more platforms if I want to ‘get my numbers up’. My subscriber number is minimal – just how I like it! But I value each one of you. I like to think you have found my blog because it adds a tiny bit of value or entertainment and that’s just fine with me.

I hope to continue my journey to simplicity and would love your company on the way. Have a great week 😊

I love following along on your journey! I sometimes feel like I’m not saying anything very new or exciting for the internet either, but yet there are so many people out there slogging through their journey just like we are, and it’s amazing how inspiring reading about someone else’s journey can be!
Thank you for writing, and congratulations on your one year anniversary!

Congrats on a year of blogging, Lorraine! What an exciting milestone. Connection is definitely one of the things I like most about blogging, too, so I can definitely relate to that. Initially I had the attitude of ‘I really hope no one ever reads this’, but then I realised how wonderful it is to build online friendships and how much happiness my blogging routine brings me. It feels like I’m catching up with old friends. I’m also totally with you on not worrying about ‘getting my numbers up’. I don’t look at my stats to this day, and I’m really happy with blogging that way. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with someone keeping track of how many visitors they’re getting, but it gives me real peace of mind to simply not know. I think it’s because it keeps my mind on writing from the heart or about whatever comes up at the time, rather than tracking what’s popular or well received and doing more of that. I hope your second year of blogging brings you much joy and connection!! x

Hi there Lisa, thanks so much for your beautiful comment. Connecting with like-minded people really can’t be over-estimated. Some of my family and friends don’t really get the whole ‘minimalism’ thing so I genuinely value those I interact with on-line, who have similar perspectives – it’s very restful!! I’m with you regarding writing from the heart or whatever is current for you at that moment – and I think this comes across very strongly in your lovely blog. Thank you for your good wishes 🙂 Lxxx

Wow one year already. That seems to have flown by. Blogging does open up a whole new world. I’m still on the stuttering start to my blog but love doing it and reading others. Happy 1st Blogday xx

Happy Birthday! Our babies will always grow up together. For any of you who do not know, Minimal-lol and littleblackdomicile both started on the same day! Unknown to each other, we have become fast friends. I know either of us could pop up on the other’s doorstep without notice and be welcomed right in. This is the number one perk of blogging for us who don’t do this to “get our numbers” up. We all get to know each other better when we are not lost in the sea of stats pressure. Here’s to the terrible twos!-Laurel
